“White…is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black…God paints in many colours; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white.” — G. K. Chesterton
It’s a bittersweet moment for me- The Colour Series has been my first and longest running series and it has been a lot of fun writing about something that I don’t usually write about. It’s coming to an end and initially I wanted to wrap it up with red, but after much thought, I wanted the series to end on a note of clarity and light. What better colour to portray the beauty and essence of something than the purity of White.
Close your eyes, and picture being in a brightly lit room, white walls, white bed sheets, white furniture, windows with the sunlight peeking through the sheer white curtains– kinda feels like you’ve been transported into one of those Instagram/Pinterest decor photos don’t you think? Have you ever wondered why we love those Instagram pictures so much? The over exposed light and brightness makes your mind feel clear, allows creativity to flow and looks simple, crisp, clean.
| White is a colour that allows for mental clarity and acts to declutter your mind- one reason why you feel lighter and more awake when you’re in one of those Pinterest-like rooms! White is a pure colour- brides wear white dresses, and doctors wear white coats. The colour signifies safety, cleanliness, innocence and new beginnings. It’s a blank canvas that enables new ideas to flourish |
With this series, I wanted to be able to bring attention to how easily it is for our emotions to be swayed based on outer appearance- even when we don’t consciously notice it. Whether we realize it or not, the colours that we wear inadvertently reflect and affect how we feel, and how other people feel about us.
Wearing red as opposed to wearing blue gives off a very different perception, wearing black as opposed to wearing white sways us to feel more edgy or more innocent. Some colours make you feel more energetic than others.
Have some fun, wear different colours, look in the mirror and seize the day!
Hope you enjoyed this series as much as I have ~
