The flowers are blooming and the days are longer which means it’s time to put away my giant winter puffer. I’m always really confused this season because it’s still chilly in the mornings and evenings but some days are HOT. But it’s not quite yet time to just walk out in a light spring jacket but I also don’t need a fur coat.
I’ve been trying to keep my wardrobe more organized lately even during season changes. Between this transition period from winter to spring, I’m bringing in a couple items that can help you mediate the confusing weather and still look chic!
Here are some Tips to Transition your Wardrobe from Winter to Spring:
Bring Those Bright Spring Colours Back
I think one of the easiest ways to bring some spring into my wardrobe is to change up my colour palette! I do that with how I style my accessories and clothing!
Pulling out my brighter lilac and pink accessories in exchange for my black, white, and grey ones is another option too. Scarves, purses and jewelry are a great way to do this. It’s the perfect little pop of colour that my outfit needs to remind me that it’s Spring. I usually gravitate to greys and blacks in the winter, but in Spring, man, all the pinks come out to play.
My favourite colours for Spring 2022? Dusty pinks, sage, beige, light purples, dusty blue and light pops of yellow! Pastels are some of my favourite go-tos lately. And of course, don’t forget the florals. I wrote a post about how clothing colours can affect your mood and say alot about your personality!
In addition, I also love pulling out simple spring shirts like tees that I can still pair with simple jeans and a lighter jacket to keep warm. I very rarely wear jeans in the winter- I don’t know why. Light long sleeves with stripes or a cute ¾ sleeve top is perfect for crisp spring days.
Practice the Art of Layering in the Spring
The hardest part of the transition from a winter to spring wardrobe are the layers! You want to stay warm but I find that I usually go a little overboard and end up sweating instead. So what I’ve been doing is incorporating my lighter spring pieces with some winter layers overtop. Opposite patterns and fabric make a fun statement.
My favourite winter pieces are my soft sweaters. They feel so warm and cozy and it’s always hard to put them away. One thing I like to do is pairing my cashmere sweaters with a chiffon skirt instead of a pair of jeans.
Another way to incorporate my lighter pieces is to layer knee high socks or leggings with my spring dresses. It keeps my legs warm and I get the flowy feel that comes with my favourite floral piece. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with layering a giant sweater over a long dress!
Get Creative With your Outerwear
Outerwear is my favourite way to spice up my Spring looks!
Blazers, Cardigans and Trench Coats are my best pieces for the transition from a winter to spring wardrobe and you can play around with so many different colours!
I like to use blazers to replace what I would normally use as a jacket during a crisp spring morning. After wearing heavy parkas and peacoats all winter, wearing a blazer over a simple tee is one of my favourite everyday outfits. It’s great as a casual look around town, or to wear to work!
I also love using cardigans and light trench coats as a layering piece on days that I wear dresses. I also stumbled upon a fabulous fashion blog with multiple different outfit combinations that you can try out and layer for any season! Check out Thalita’s blog HERE!
Keep Your Booties and Knee High Boots!
Don’t keep your boots away!!!
I love bringing out the more statement boots out during Spring. You know, the ones that really aren’t practical and just look really fashionable?
My knee high boots and booties are the perfect transition items. I’ve seen alot of Doc Martens paired with dresses lately too and they totally work.
If you are not a fan of leggings, try using knee high boots with skirts and dresses to keep legs and feet cozy! It’s a chic look I love to incorporate on the weekends that doesn’t feel too warm. Paired with a bright necklace and you have the perfect look.
Flats and chunky mules can be a good in between for sandals and boots. My toes are still warm but they aren’t as bulky as boots and socks for those warmer days.
