The Colour Series is slowly coming to a close and it has truly been a great one! I really wanted to create something that meshed both fashion and substance together and this was definitely fun for me, and I’m grateful to know that you guys love it as well! This week we touch on everyone’s favourite go-to colour- the one colour that matches with almost anything! We’re going all black baby.
Authority, strength, power, intimidation
Black is a default colour. It is the easiest colour to match outfits with and it makes an individual look slimmer as well as make your curves more noticeable.
What I didn’t know was that wearing black has a lot to do with how old we look. Black clothing apparently brings out the dark circles around our eyes and makes us look more tired, drained and older than we actually are, funny hey? This is especially true with black scarves.
Black is a colour of intimidation! People who wear black feel more authoritative and that’s what the colour does to your mind and body. The wearer feels more elegant and exudes more confidence – something that is communicated through how the individual relates to others. In sports, teams wear black as a strategy to intimidate their competition. In the same way, but a different arena, black is a very sexy colour. As compared to the passionate red that screams sex, black exudes a different kind of sexy, it accentuates your body shape and brings out a warmer skin tone in some people.
I find black to be a very formal and edgy colour. When I think of black, I think work clothes, blazers, leather jackets, important events and formality. Two of my favourite blazers is my black blazer and red blazer. And those two definitely don’t give off the same vibe.
On the flip side, black is also a colour that is viewed as emotional, sad and in certain situations, it makes the individual feel depressed and closed off. Teenagers are often said to wear black during moments of transition from teen years to adulthood! This is because Black is also known as the colour of endings and new beginnings! It marks the time for change.
Black is not sad. Bright colors are what depresses me. They’re so… empty. Black is poetic. How do you imagine a poet? In a bright yellow jacket? Probably not.”
