Sit Down with Carey Ng; Miss Universe Malaysia 2013

One reason I absolutely love doing interviews is meeting people from all walks of life and hearing their stories. You get this huge wave of inspiration and bursts of motivation everytime and this was one of those moments.

Carey Ng

I’ve been a fan of Carey once she won the title of Miss Universe Malaysia 2013, and look, I totally understand that some beauty pageants are very easily sidelined into being misunderstood as one that comes off as superficial.

This was one of the hardest interviews for me to edit because choosing which elements of it to include was so amazingly difficult. This woman is not only full of wit, but has her feet firmly on the ground, is gorgeous both inside and out and if you don’t believe me, check out the interview link in this article.

A woman with a strong academic background and deciding to take a leap of faith into an industry which is televised and made public for the entire country to see, Carey has locked down an ever growing fan base and after speaking to her, I understand why. She has a strong vision and love for the country that she represents, and that vision has now brought her into a completely new direction in life, one that she never expected but gives her a fulfillment that her original plan fell short of.

She is now on the board of directors for the pageant, moving from the face of the organization to being part of building and growing it and I am very excited to see where this firecracker will go next!

Below are some questions Carey answered, but like any other interview, this one took a completely different spin with questions that just flowed throughout the conversation;

  1. Who did you wear during KLFW?

I wore Alia Bastamam, Syomir Izwa, Syaiful Baharim, Jovian Mandagie and H&M.

  1. If you had to choose one designer in particular of who you wore during KLFW as your favourite, who would it be and why?

It would be really hard to choose as they have very distinctive styles and they were very creative and beautiful in their own ways. But if I have to choose, I would pick the number I wore on the last night, that particular Jovian Mandagie’s was intricate in detailing and very loud. I adored how it made me feel like a beauty queen all over again!

  1. What are your fashion essentials?

White shirt, Jeans and a pair of good heels.

 4. Being a beauty queen, do you feel the need to dress a certain way?

In a way yes, as beauty queens should essentially exude sensuality, confidence and regal but everyone wears fashion differently. As long as you look fashionable and confident, that the way you should dress

  1. How important is it to feel good in what you wear?

Feeling good is everything! It will show in your posture and mannerism. And that contributes a lot to how good you would look to others.

  1. Some of the designs you wore give off a very feminine vibe, whereas others are more bold, do you think in a way, a person changes based on what they wear?

Ultimately, I believe you should wear the clothes, not the other way round. But having said that, I feel in character depending on what I wear and I love that about fashion! I think it’s pretty boring to stick to one style or persona.

  1. What do you think of the fashion industry in Malaysia?

It has been steadily gaining more exposure and definitely allowing the talents to showcase to the public more with KLFW. I’m really excited about that since i have the privilege to work with a couple really closely, I hope to continue to be a part of the growing fashion forward community in Malaysia! The Malaysian designers has something very unique to offer and I can’t wait for us to make a name globally.
