Spring Sorbet
How to shoot a Spring inspired look?
Firstly, let me just draw your attention to the title- Spring Sorbet! Doesn’t that just make ya smile? Also, it kinda makes me want to get ice cream. The Sorbet kind.
Getting back on point, this article is for all of y’all who love seeing pretty spring-inspired photographs and want to get your face on them!
In this article, I’m going to share some tips on how to host your very own spring- inspired photoshoot and it’s not as difficult as some might think.
Step 1:
Get a group of friends (or not)!
Think about how you want your photographs to look like! Do you want to go solo or would you like to gather some friends and make an occasion out of it? As you can see, in the shoot I was in, we wanted to hang out and at the same time shoot something fun in time for spring! So gather some of your gal pals, have some champagne and shoot!!
Step 2:
Find a nice, brightly lit spot!
So you’ve got some friends and now you need the right spot to shoot it!
For great pictures, the lighting is important! You want to shoot in a brightly lit location – whether it’s at an indoor apartment, balcony, or outdoors! I personally love shooting outdoors because Vancouver provides the best natural lighting there is! – Why? Because on great Spring days, you can find spots with a nice shade and not too strong of a sun glare! I personally love taking pictures in Stanley park and Coal Harbour!
Step 3:
Someone to take the pictures!
Of course, you can’t have a photoshoot without someone to take the photos! Unless you have a self timer and camera stand which can work too but involves a lot of back and forth. Have someone rotate with ya between posing and taking pictures, OR get a kind soul to take em! If you want a professional touch, there are plenty of very talented Vancouver photographers out there to choose from!
Some tips:
A lot of people ask which camera I use to take some of my pictures – which is very flattering and here’s my secret: I USE MY TRUSTY IPHONE
You’ll be surprised at the quality of pictures the iPhone takes as long as its in focus and the lighting is good!
Shoot in square if you’re using the iPhone so it’s easy to share on Instagram
and if you’re using a camera, make sure to leave some room so that it makes it easier to crop!
Step 4:
What to wear, what to wear?
The outfits definitely make the picture! You want to wear something that’s spring like- bright colours, prints, fresh, flowy textures!
In this shoot, we wanted a fresh feel for Spring and the photos turned out to be exactly that- Gives off a very Dove-Love-Yourself kind of vibe.
Step 5:
Have fun!
As cliche as this sounds, it’s what makes the BEST photos! My favourite shots have to be the candid ones because you see personality and when you look at a photograph of people having fun, you immediately love the photo as well!
Happy Spring Time and if you do go ahead with your own spring shoot- tag me in it @SamanthaS.Style– would love to see and feature them!!
